Y5 - Mrs McGhee 2023 - 2024

Miss Eastwood

Mrs McGhee

My name is Mrs McGhee and I joined Northway in September 2001. I am the deputy head teacher and I am really excited to be teaching Y5 while Mrs Windham is on her maternity leave. Northway is an amazing school and I so proud to work here.

The best place to see what we have been up to is on our Twitter - @northwaymaghull. You can filter your search by using #y5 or search for a specific subject, e.g. #geography

Contacting the Class Teacher

PE

This half term, we will do PE on Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure your child has the correct kit.

Spelling

This half-term your child will not be bringing a spelling list home to learn. We will continue to work on the Year 5 and 6 common exception words in class but they will not be tested on them weekly. A copy of these can be found in the downloads section below.  Please encourage your child to complete some weekly spelling practise by accessing Doodle Spell.

Homework

Every Friday, children will be given a Maths and English assignments on Doodle for them to complete that week.

Children are expected to complete the following:

Reading - Please read with your child, regardless of their ability, at least twice per week and sign their home-reading record.

Food and drink

Every child should have a clear plastic water bottle (with a sports cap lid) that they can access at any time during the day. This bottle should be in addition to a lunch time drink, if they are on packed lunches.

Your child may bring a nut free healthy snack for morning play. Please ensure that the snack is in their book bag so that they do not have to find it in their lunch bags.

Healthy snack

  • Fruit
  • Bread or toast.

We have children with anaphylaxis, a life-threatening condition that is caused by a severe allergic reaction to nuts. We ask you to help us protect these children by sending snacks for your child that do not contain nuts. Thank you for your cooperation with this; it is very much appreciated by the families of the children.
