Parents join Y6 for a reading morning

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend the reading session this morning despite the snow! We hope you found the session useful and that you can use some ideas when listening to your child read.

If you were unable to attend, see if you can use any of the ideas below to discuss a text with your child:

- What do you predict will happen next? Can you back it up with evidence (words or pictures from the text)?

- Can you summarise the main events in the text?

- Are there any words which you need to clarify the meaning of? Remember you can do this in different ways e.g. discuss the word with someone else, read around the word in the sentence, use a dictionary to check the definiton or look at the word class of the word. When you know the meaning, you should re-read the sentence in the text to check your understanding.
