A Bug's Life - British Science Week In Year 1/2

Lesson: Science

Class: Y1/2 - Mr Wright Year: 2017 - 2018

The theme for British Science Week 2018 is ‘Exploration and Discovery’ and, in our Science lessons this week, we explored the outdoors, trying to make our very own hotel fit for a bug. We discussed what sort of places attract minibeasts and insects before heading outside into the forest area and gathering things which creatures would like. After splitting up into groups, we created our own bug hotels using things which we thought would attract bugs and insects, including grass, sticks, stones, leaves and sugar. Later on in the week, we brought our bug hotels inside and inspected them to see which bugs we could discover. We found that snails, slugs, woodlice, spiders and caterpillars had all been staying in our bug hotels!
