HMRC Taxation lesson

Date: 6th Mar 2018 @ 11:38am

This morning, the Lower Junior classes were lucky enough to receive a lesson from a visitor from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs who taught us all about tax. We learned what tax is and what our taxes pay for.

We had to take on the role of the Chancellor of the Exchequer and decide on what we were going to spend the country's budget. We had to order six different priorities: Health, Education, Armed Forces, Police, Protecting the Countryside and Museums. We found it quite difficult to decide as all of these are important to keep our country functioning properly.

We also learned about different, unusual taxes that existed in the past, such as the Window Tax and Hat Tax!

Thank you to Mr Molloy for coming to visit us and delivering such an interesting and informative lesson!
