School Closure

Daily Home Learning Plan

Please remember to keep any work that you complete at home and bring it back to school when you return.

Now that school is going to be closed again, we don’t want you to stop learning! It is really important that you carry on practising your basic skills and keep your creative juices flowing!

Below is a list of ideas for things you can do when you should be in school. We will update our class page each week with some new ideas to keep you ticking over.

Check out the document downloads below because there will be some helpful documents for you to look at.

This week’s inspiration:

Week beginning: Monday 18th January

English This week, you are going to be finishing your narrative story from last week. If you think that you have already finished, you ned to go back and add a lot more detail Really try to expand those sentences! Remember to include lots of ‘show, don’t tell’ about what the different characters were thinking/feeling at different parts of your story.

You will then be looking at different word classes and gathering some vocabulary to write a version of ‘The Owl and The Pussycat’ of your own, before performing it. Remember to think about your audience and speak loudly and clearly.

Your English teacher feedback task for this week is to send us a video of you performing your poem! If you aren’t able to record a video, we’d still like to see your poem so you can take a photograph of it and send it to us to read.  Your teacher will then watch it and provide you with some feedback on your work by the following Tuesday. I can’t wait to see you all perform!

Please try to send both feedback tasks in one email, as this makes it a lot easier to provide feedback on both pieces. Thanks for your understanding!

Spellings:

This week’s spellings are:

The words in bold are common exception words that do not follow a spelling pattern but must be learnt.

disconnect

impatient

impossible

incomplete

independent

believe

bicycle

breath

Keep learning and revising all the Y3 and 4 Words. These are attached below.

You can also use a dictionary to find definitions of your spellings and write them in sentences.

If you are in Mrs Low's spelling group please use Nessy for 10 mins each day as an alternative to the spellng lists each week.

Maths:

This week’s focus for Year 3 is: Calculation and Place Value

For Lessons 1 – 3 use the teaching videos of the different methods that we use in school which are on a separate tab at the top of the class page. You may not need them but they are there in case you are finding it a little tricky and need a reminder. The videos for Lesson 4 and 5 are on this class page.

Lesson 5 Maths video

Your Maths Teacher Feedback Task is to send me a copy/photo of your ordering number sheet. I am looking forward to seeing it!

Please try to send both feedback tasks in one email, as this makes it a lot easier to provide feedback on both pieces. Thanks for your understanding!

We would also like you all to complete three Garage games and one Sound Check each day on TTR. Once you have completed these, feel free to complete further activities and games! Remember to go on Doodle Maths regularly: try to do ‘little and often’ and stay in the green zone! Use Doodle Tables to help you to master the tables that you find tricky.

We have set up a TTR 'Battle of the bands' between all three of the Lower Junior classes. The winners will be crowned at 3pm on Friday! Every correct answer in any game is worth 1 point towards your team's score. You can track your team's progress when you log in to TTR.

The winner of last week’s battle was Y3 – Mrs Shimmin/Mrs Collins. Who will win this week?

Parents, please remember – do what you can and what is appropriate for your child!

Science: You are going to do a scientific investigation this week. You need to roll a car over some different surfaces and make predictions about how far it will travel over each surface and why. Try to find some surfaces with different textures and remember to only change one variable (the fancy science word for ‘thing’!) each time.

Geography:  Your activity this week is to complete a reading comprehension about the different mountain ranges in Europe.

DT: This week you are going to be thinking about sugar. This will hopefully help you to make some healthy choices when you decide what you are going to include in your picnic!

Mindfulness: World Religion Day -  Being considerate of others and respecting their differences, helps maintain our own well-being. Every year, World Religion Day is celebrated in January-this year, it was Sunday 17th January. The aim osf this day is for people all around the world to understand other people’s beliefs and unite us all! Read the PowerPoint and create a poster to share the information.

Website

We have included a reminder for all juniors of how to access the pupil area of the website. Click on this link to watch it. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

http://northwayprimary.co.uk/page/accessing-the-pupil-area-of-the-website/89720

Login to the pupil section of the website using your username and password in your home-reading record. It will ask for the school verification code so enter this: 449703

You will find a discussion this week called Science. Use this discussion to talk to your classmates and myself about your Science home learning task for this week.

Reading: Please read with your child, regardless of their ability, at least twice per week and sign their home-reading record. Your child will need their reading book each day as we have Accelerated Reading sessions every day.

Children have access to an online library of books at their current ZPD:

https://www.myon.co.uk/login/

Children have their username and login in their reading record. They can use MyOn to quiz on books they have read online.

To quiz on their school reading book, use our school’s AR site:

https://Ukhosted110.renlearn.co.uk/2243135

Children can also check if a book they have read from home has a quiz attached to it using the following website:
