We understand the impact that the school closure has had on the learning of our children and are working extremely hard to ensure all of our children are not negatively impacted by their time away from the classroom.

At Northway, we are in receipt of the Government's Catch Up Premium in the academic year 2020 - 2021. This is calculated at £80 per pupil and as such we will receive £25,040 over the academic year. This grant has been used to employ two higher level teaching assistants. One HLTA will be based in the infants and the other in the juniors.

These HLTAs will be used in several ways. The first is to provide strategically organised time for class teachers to work with children from their class in small groups or on a 1:1 basis. Each class teacher will receive a minimum of an afternoon per week for two half terms. All teachers have carried out an assessment baseline in order to identify any gaps from the previous year's objectives. This has allowed them to identify individual pupils who require support and give intervention to help overcome any barriers to their learning.

The HLTAs will also provide additional, targeted support to our pupil premium children to support their catch up.

How will we measure the impact of our Catch Up work?

Following a half term of carefully planned recovery curriculum, baseline achievement data was gathered to see the current situation following the return to school. At the start of each teacher's block of 'catch up' time, they will identify their target group of children and anticpated outcomes. Children will be assessed during the spring and summer term and this data will be compared to the baseline data to see the impact.

Additionally, pupil learning coversations, book scrutinies and learning walks will all provide key impact evidence.
