Y4 - Mr Seery 2019 - 2020

Mr Seery

Welcome

My name is Mr. Seery and I teach Year 4 along with the support of Mrs Lloyd. I trained at Edge Hill University and I have been teaching since 2014! I am very much looking forward to getting involved in the community of Northway Community Primary School as I have had such an amazing impression so far!

I have a musical and theatrical background and I am hoping to contribute towards the school's music concerts and theatre productions throughout the year.

This week’s inspiration:

This week, I would like you to send me your piece of writing.  Once you have finished your report, email it across so I can have a look at it.  I can’t wait to see your work.  I will email you back some comments by Wednesday 15th July.  The email address to use is:  year4@northwayprimary.co.uk

Week beginning: Monday 6th July

English:

  • Reading: We have uploaded two reading comprehensions for you to complete.  They are called ‘Making a Mountain’ and ‘Female Mountaineers’

  • Spellings: Continue to work through the Read Write Inc book that you have taken home. Remember to focus on one sound per week, and do lots of different activities about that particular sound. Play some ‘Four in a Row’ with someone at home, ask an adult to dictate some of the sentences from your weekly sound for you to practise, and complete the different activities in your work book.

  • Handwriting: Complete the handwriting sheets, which will also help you to learn the words from the Y3/4 spelling list.

  • SPaG: Practise some grammar activities, using the attached SPaG mat, to revise the key grammatical points for Year 3 or Year 4.

  • Writing: There is a writing task attached so that you can continue to write, using lots of different genres. This week’s focus is to write a report. Look at the different things that you need to do to be a Year 4 writer and try to include as many of them as you can in your letter.

Maths:  This week’s focus is:   - Shape

Your Maths learning involves using the White Rose activities that have been set up specifically for Home Learning. The lesson sheets are attached in the ‘Documents for Download’ section below but please see the website for videos that accompany each lesson. Answer sheets are also attached, but please be aware that there may be more than one possible answer for some questions. There will also be a Friday Maths Challenge uploaded to the White Rose website at the end of each week.

As an alternative to the White Rose Friday Challenge, there will be a weekly problem solving sheet you might prefer to complete. It is called 'Y4 Friday Challenge’

There will be an additional activity for maths each week. Again this is optional. They will be called Independent Recapping activities and will revisit some recently visited key topics from the Year 4 Maths objectives.

Parents, please remember – do what you can and what is appropriate for your child!

Creative time: Take your small sketch drawing from last week and a blank piece of A4 paper. This week, your art challenge is to enlarge your drawing to full A4 size, trying to keep the proportions and lines in the right place, whilst making it bigger. Enjoy the challenge of thinking about how to enlarge your drawing and don’t forget those shading and line drawing skills! Have patience with yourself!

Music Chill time: Use the cards in the downloads and follow the instructions given. This week it’s all about using pitch (high and low), dynamics (loud or quiet) and tempo (how quick or slow) to create music or sounds that represent different animals.

Science: How we see: Complete the worksheet of how we see.

History/Geography: Read through the information about how the Anglo-Saxons belief system changed from paganism to Christianity and then complete the question sheet about what you have learned.

Mindfulness challenge:  This week there are 3 challenges for you to try – you can change them in any way and repeat them if you like, see how it makes you feel each time you complete the challenge. Good luck!

The winning classes from last week were Mr Wright’s class, Mrs Phillips' class, Mr Seery's class and Miss Stupples' class. Congratulations to them! This week’s brand new battle will start on Monday 6th July at 9:30am and will finish on Saturday 11th July at 9:30am. The fixtures for this week are:
