Y2 - Mr Wright 2020 - 2021

Mr Wright

Remote Learning Update: Please click on the tab above to find the home learning for the week beginning 18.1.21.

My name is Mr Wright and I teach Year 2 along with Mrs Ward, who support our class. I have been teaching at Northway ever since I completed my teacher training in 2014 and I love it.

Having spent several months at Northway during my teaching practice, I was delighted to become a member of the teaching staff and being a teacher is something I have always wanted to do. I believe that children learn best when they are engaged and enjoying their learning so I always aim to make my lessons as entertaining as possible. As well as teaching Year 2, I am also responsible for leading Maths in Key Stage 1 and Physical Education throughout the school.

Contacting the class teacher

Due to social distancing restrictions, teachers are unable to meet face to face unless meetings have been scheduled. Please use the class emails if you wish to contact the class teacher. If your concern is imminent, please contact the school office and they will pass the message on to the class teacher.

School is closed for all Year 2 children in Mr Wright's class.

Here are some activities to complete with your child this week whilst they are at home.

Week Beginning 04/01/21

The English tasks for this week are all based on classic poetry, focussing on the Victorian poem ‘The Queen of Hearts’. This classic poem is based on the story of Alice In Wonderland and was written over 150 years ago.

In lesson 1, read the poem several times and try to learn it off by heart. Once you have practised reciting the poem, perform it to someone in your family. Remember to use expression when you speak and you could even include some appropriate actions to accompany the words.

In lesson 2, look at the following pictures relating to the classic poem ‘The Queen of Hearts’ and think about what vocabulary you could add to the poem to improve it. Label the queen, the tarts, the knave and the king, including adjectives as well as adverbs.

In lesson 3, use the vocabulary you used in the previous lesson and add appropriate adjectives and adverbs to the poem to improve it. Once you have added a range of adjectives, write out your improved version of the poem in your neatest handwriting using the lines on the worksheet.

1. know

2. knee

3. knock

4. gnome

5. knight

6. knuckle

7. every

8. everybody

9. even

10. great

This week’s focus is Place Value. The lesson sheets are attached in the ‘Documents to Download’ section below. Remember to use the 100 square for support if you need it.

Lesson 1 – Place Value. Complete the Place Value table in which you need to represent numbers in different ways, representing a digit as a number, a word, expanded form and a picture.

Lesson 2 – 10 More Or 10 Less. Complete the worksheet in which you have to find 10 more or 10 less than the number on the robot’s tummy.

Lesson 3 – Place Value Puzzles. Complete the number jigsaws from the 100 square, using your place value knowledge to identify the missing numbers.

In Science in this half-term, we have been learning about everyday materials and part of this involves describing the simple physical properties of everyday materials. Read through the ‘Science – Properties Of Materials’ powerpoint in the ‘Documents to Download’ section and complete the worksheet in which you have to describe the properties of some everyday materials.

In History this half term we have been learning about toys from the past. Using the PowerPoint and documents in ‘Documents to Download’, sort the toys into toys from the present and toys from the past.

Download the P.E challenges from the ‘Documents to download’ section and have a go at completing a few of the challenges suggested. Which ones are your favourite? Can you challenge any one from your home?
