Y1 - Mrs Sumner 2019 - 2020

Miss Roughley

Hi, I am Mrs Sumner and I teach Year 1. I started teaching at Northway in 2008 after completing my teaching practice at Edge Hill University. I remember the first day I came to Northway for a tour of the school and I was made to feel so welcome by all of the staff and children. There is always such a lovely, positive and happy atmosphere at Northway!

Daily Home Learning Plan

So, it looks like school might be closed for a little while but we don’t want you to stop learning! It is really important that you carry on practising your basic skills and keep your creative juices flowing!

Below is a list of ideas for things you can do when you should be in school. I will update our class page by 9:30am every Monday with some new ideas to keep you ticking over.

Don’t forget to use your online learning log-ins to keep your skills going.

The links for some websites are below:

Some children may also have log-ins for these accounts:

This week’s inspiration:

WB 06.04.20

Creative time: If you made a colourful rainbow to cheer up anyone walking past your house, create a scene to go underneath it. Perhaps you could make children playing in Northway’s playground- all with blue jumpers on or a farm scene with different animals. Have you got a bear in your window now? The teachers have!

Music Chill time: Can you remember the band called The Eurythmics? They were a British pop duo consisting of members Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. Here are some songs we liked listening to in assembly. Sing along!                                                                                                                                 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeMFqkcPYcg  (Sweet Dreams)                                                     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCdneDxFRYQ (There Must be an Angel)

Science:  Winnie the Pooh needs a new umbrella but he doesn’t know what to make it out of. Can you help him please? The properties of materials make them suitable or unsuitable for particular purposes. What could you use? Look at ‘Files to Download’ – Winnie Powerpoint and Science Results grid.

History: There are lots of kind nurses doing very special things at the moment all over the world. Florence Nightingale was the amazing nurse we learnt about. Tell someone in your house all about her. You could pretend to be a news reporter! Look at the power point ‘Florence’ to remind you in ‘Files to Download’.

Geography:  Make a list of any landmarks around the area you live in. You could spot some if you go out for a daily walk with your family. Remember that landmarks help us to identify and remember where we are. A landmark of London is Buckingham Palace. What other landmarks do you know?

Mindfulness challenge: Have a go at some yoga especially for your age group. Tell Mum or Dad to join in too!                                                                                                                                 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X655B4ISakg

Information for this week:

English – Write a diary of things you have been doing lately. Remember to use time connectives to start your sentences such as first, then, later on, after that. You can ring one of your family and read it out so they know what you’re up to!

Young budding poets across Liverpool with time to spare are being asked to get creative and tell us what they are missing through the art of poetry.                                                                           https://mysefton.co.uk/2020/03/30/budding-young-poets-urged-to-join-the-grand-poetry-competition/

Maths – Complete the questions off the arithmetic paper, check the answers through and correct any you were unsure of. You could explain to an adult how you knew how to complete the questions. Parents, please refer to the calculation methods in files to download for teaching approaches. Thank you.

Phonics - Practise writing sentences with your common exception words in. Write 4 per day. Check that they make sense and have the appropriate punctuation. Read them out aloud. Your words for your year group are in ‘Files to Download’.
